Factoring: Greatest Common Factor & Sums and Products

I hope everyone had a great spring break! We are continuing to work on our 3rd unit of the semester, Polynomial Factoring.

For this unit, we will be discussing 4 methods. They are listed below. To get a "3" for this unit, students must show understanding of ALL 4 methods. To receive a "2.5", they must show understanding for 3/4 methods. To receive a "2", 2/4 methods; and a "1.5" would be 1/4 methods.

Methods:

  • Greatest Common Factor
  • Sums & Products
  • Difference of Squares
  • Multi Step

So far, we have discussed greatest common factor and sums & products.

Here is a copy of the worksheet that we worked on in class. Answers can be found here.

Here are some helpful videos if you get stuck:

Greatest Common Factor - 2 (a little different than how we did in class, but still good!)

Sums & Products - 2 (a little lengthy, but a GREAT explanation of the "why" behind this!)
